Did you know that there are around 550,000 in PNG with low vision that would be correctable with spectacles... but only 10 optometrists in the nation? That is the equivalent of about 40 optometrists for all of Australia.
We want to do something about that... and you can help! Its pretty easy to do but can be the difference between a struggling life in the dark - or the ability to see, work and earn an income for one's family!
All you need to do is follow four easy steps:
1. Download and print the poster you see here.
2. Find a suitable place to collect specs. Perhaps your local optometrist's office, your school or workplace would be willing to host a box with the poster for people to donate new or recycled spectacles and sunnies!
When you've collected the spectacles and sunnies...
3. Take a picture of yourself and the specs so we can add it to our website! Be sure to email it to us along with the number so we can add it to the tally!
4. Contact your local Lions Club, give them a copy of the attached letter, and ask them to send the specs to the Lions Recycle for Sight facility in Redland Bay, QLD.
Lions will then clean, test and label the spectacles before returning them to us to deliver to Papua New Guinea. Our goal is to collect 20,000 for a start but one day it would be wonderful to be able to collect all 550,000 that are necessary!
Thanks for your help! Have fun! And let us know if you have any questions!
